-At Last!
Beans Seems to Be Sick
Beans Seems Full of Beans Today
Sunday, May 24:
Around 9.20 PM Fatima heard the rustling sound of nesting material being moved.
At about 10 PM there was a deep sigh.....
And by 11 PM there were the sounds of suckling piglets.
However, basically all was silent -not even the usual sound of fighting piglets.
We did not wish to disturb her -and so were kept in suspense all night.
Although sometimes Fatima could see movement through the bars of the pen
-but generally we had no idea what was happening there.
Monday, May 25:
6.30 AM: Six Little Piglets
Despite being a very warm day, mother and piglets seem to be coping very well.
Beans is tired -and has a light fever but this is normal and she is otherwise OK.
Piglets and mother seem to stay away from each other when not suckling.
Hopefully this will help prevent accidental crushing.
Tuesday, May 26:
Fatima gave supplementary iron by dribbling it onto the sow's teats during suckling
Wednesday, May 27:
We were worried that Beans would be upset by the noise Pinkie made while having his tusks cut.
However, she seemed to remain calm and undisturbed
Thursday, May 28:
The fever seems to have Disappeared

One week old Tonight!
--------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------
These are the first piglets to be born here since we lost both our sows last year.
Beans is also our first sow to be born here.
The farrowing went well without any intervention from us:
Fatima has given the piglets some iron drops (on their mother's teats)
-but that is the only intervention we have done.
The piglets appear normal -but perhaps due to the hot weather, not very active.
By the 6th night -only one piglet has used the "escape hatch" to go outside the pen.
The first week has been without incident -and we hope our good luck will continue.
