Week Five:

Thursday 13 January 2022

(Camera Battery failure - No Images)

I had a nasty attack of constipation and stomach acid in the night. Several hours of agony -until I finally vomited it all out. Later, after drinking lots of water and some coconut oil, I also managed to relieve myself. Probably just stress from the last few days -plus a certain amount of dehydration. By 07:00, I felt a bit battered and bruised -but a lot better.

Having a bit of a lazy day. Fatima is out shopping -and recharging my camera I hope.

Penny is here and she cooks garden vegetable soup for lunch (my first meal of the day).

Then it starts raining. If it keeps raining then we shall replenish the reservoir and collect water so we can  wash some cloths. The plants also need the rain.

Unfortunately, it is just a short lasting rain.

Fatima returns around 1:30 with lots of nice things to raise our spirits -and has recharged my camera.

Penny has also collected tap water from a neighbour who still has it.

We have a coffee break with a Danish pastry -and i get to read my book for a while.

Then I go to sleep for the rest of the afternoon (after also sleeping for much of the morning).

Beef and vegetable soup with bread for dinner. I'm still feeling a bit tired and weak.

Friday 14 January 2022

One month now since the morning after the typhoon. Still no electricity and no regular tap water. However, hopefully, the situation has now stabilized:  The garden is now largely cleared of the fallen debris left by the devastating wind. Of the 15 original piglets, 10 have died, but the 4 on the balcony seem to have a good chance of survival. Although there is a lot of belly Nosing still. Fatima extended their space  and gave them  the freedom of the house (during the day). That seems to have helped. They are also starting to be weaned and are receiving solid food in addition to the foster milk. The remaining piglet is under observation. Although Beans seems to be recovering, her piglet seems to be rather unhappy. However, we are worried that if we take it away this will upset Beans very much -and also there is a strong chance that in its weak state it will be bullied, or excessively belly nosed by its stronger siblings.

At present the, weather is cold and miserable. That is good for a recovering sow, but not so good for a poorly nurtured piglet.

My stomach upset seems over -and I hope to regain my full strength soon.

        house

Bread with egg for breakfast. We are recharging the solar powered lamps that we recently acquired via the Internet. Fatima has relocated her outside work table.

A friend comes to collect some seeds from us.  He lives in Loboc, a nearby town which has suffered severe floods as a result of the typhoon. He has a leaky roof -but two of his neigbours' houses were completely destroyed. His garden was also destroyed -which is why we are giving him some seeds to get restarted.

Fatima has ordered some more solar devices on-line. The expected delivery date is unknown.

Later in the day we had to separate the remaining piglet from its mother. This seems to be  successful.

Saturday 15 January 2022

Fatima and I thought it might be a good idea if we could go to a hotel or a beach resort for one or two nights. Just to get a rest, a good meal and especially a bath. Unfortunately, all the local facilities seem closed -either due to Covid or the Typhoon.

Our Tricycle driver told us that before the typhoon, his family moved in with another family -because they thought their house would be more resistant to the storm. Unfortunately, the roof got blown off of the house where they were staying -and they had to shelter under a table for several hours in the cold and wet. When they went home -they found their own house was undamaged.

Images of refilling water reservoirs after typhoon Rai

The tap water returns (between 04:00 AM and 09:00 AM) outside and in in the bathroom but not in the kitchen. Fatima refills the bottles and buckets -and even the fish pond.
